The Whitecaps previously secured and punched their ticket to the MLS playoffs, and are now playing for the MLS Supporters Shield, as well as their 8th Cascadia Cup Championship. With a game in hand against San Diego FC (both tied at 57pts), the Whitecaps are looking to secure home field advantage going into the MLS playoff, and every available point matters. With a 2-2 draw against the Seattle Sounders, while not a maximum amount of points, the Whitecaps extend their lossless streak; without a loss in their last eight matches across all competitions.

The first half ended level 0-0, with a slow start on both sides; a pair of injuries to Seattle's back line, and hesitations from the Whitecaps meant there were very little opportunities on both ends. Ahmed's best opportunity for the Whitecaps in the 25th minute was matched by Rothrock's header right into the hands of Takaoka in the 29th minute.

The Whitecaps broke the tension in the air in the 52nd minute, when Brian White scored his 22nd goal of the season after being setup by Thomas Müller from Andrés Cubas. Seattle responded by depositing 2 quick back-to-back goals and remained ahead until the 69th minute when Sebastian Berhalter's corner kick found Mathías Laborda with a header to beat the Seattle keeper and level the game at 2-2.

The Whitecaps return home to play in the Telus Canadian Championship Final against Vancouver FC on Oct 1st at BC Place.
