The theme from the Reign's Saturday win was growth. It was a game they might not have won earlier in the year, and it certainly wouldn't have been 2-0. What has happened to jumpstart the team this summer?
At some point, something has to break the Reign's way - but nothing went right for Seattle on Friday night. Unlike their early losses but like the previous week, it seemed to be a general malaise that sunk them.
The Reign still haven't scored a goal since late March, and after the loss to Washington, the team was torn in two directions between defensive optimism and attacking malaise.
Losing 3-0 and dropping three points at home is never the desired outcome, but the flatfooted start and the injury to one of the big team leaders are bigger worries going forward.
