Timbers Sign Striker Franck Boli
The long-awaited striker signing is finally here.
The Timbers have signed Franck Boli from Ferencvaros in Hungary, per Tom Bogert. He will come at a TAM salary, and no transfer fee has been announced. Boli has played at Stabaek in Norway for the majority of his career, and was rather prolific for them, scoring 53 goals in 149 appearances across 2 stints. At Ferencvaros, he scored 41 times in 122 appearances. This past season, he has scored 5 goals in 21 appearances, with two of those strikes coming in the UEFA Champions League Qualification Stage.
I would love for this to be a loan move rather than a permanent transfer. The Timbers now have 5 strikers on the roster with Boli in the fold. This is not a signing for the future, as Boli is 29 years old. He does have skill and a propensity to make dangerous runs, so he will be an upgrade on Jaroslaw Niezgoda and possibly Nathan Fogaca (I really rate Nathan). He doesn’t add another dimension to the number 9 role, but looks like he will gel with our current attacking setup. He will earn some starts with the state of the Timbers’ depth chart up top. The center back signing is probably coming in the summer, but Ned Grabavoy could surprise us and bring him in before the Primary Transfer Window closes on April 24th.
